Pictoplasma Sunday Open House
Pictoplasma invites the public to its Sunday Open House on 10 May 2026 at silent green, concluding the 22nd edition of the international Pictoplasma Festival. Under this year’s theme “Character Stories,” the programme explores characters as starting points for visual narratives – and what they reveal about genres, media, emotions, and possible futures.
From 13:00–19:00, visitors can experience a full day of animation screenings, an artist market, exhibitions, workshops, picture book readings, and community gatherings across the silent green grounds. Since 1999, Pictoplasma has connected international positions from illustration, animation, art, design, gaming, and emerging media, shaping the discourse around contemporary character-driven visual culture.
At the heart of the Open House is the Character Market, bringing together more than 40 international artists and independent creators presenting artworks, zines, toys, prints, and character-related objects. Alongside the market, an Artist Showcase exhibition features works by illustrators, animation filmmakers, and artists participating in this year’s conference.
The festival’s complete animation programme will screen throughout the afternoon at both Kino Arsenal and the Cupola Hall. Across six curated programmes, audiences can discover 85 international animated shorts, experimental films, and music videos spanning absurd humour, speculative fiction, queer narratives, emotional storytelling, and radical visual experimentation.
Families and younger audiences are invited to a Kids’ Zone presenting a rotating selection of animated films. Participation also plays a central role throughout the day: Italian illustrator Elenia Beretta hosts the open workshop “Faces Faces Faces”, while live picture book readings by international authors and illustrators include Gemma Correll, John Bond, Heike Faller and others.
The Sunday Open House also serves as a meeting point for Berlin’s creative communities, with informal Meet Ups welcoming both established practitioners and newcomers.
Entry to the Sunday Open House is free. Animation screenings require individual tickets, available on-site at the central information desk.
