Elder Island Combine detailed sound design with songs that move surprisingly easily. The trio from Bristol works between indie-electronica, neo-soul and funk-pop. You can get lost in the layers or just follow the rhythm. Both have their justification.

Experiences from visual arts, photography and graphic design are part of the background of the album. On “Hello Baby Okay”, funk-pop guitars meet electronic rhythms. Previous releases such as “Bonfires” and “Additions Attachments” show further stages of this catalog. It is worth listening to them side by side: the development is often in small shifts in the sound.

It is precisely this connection that makes Elder Island interesting. The music is carefully constructed, but does not seem like a demonstration of technical possibilities. The song remains at the center, with room for movement and for details that one easily overlooks on the first listen.
