Alice Hasters and Khuê Phạm Discuss a central place for learning and remembering about colonial history. Behind this is a concrete Berlin question: how can we publicly remember when the consequences of what is remembered extend into the present day?
The memory concept for 2025 has a longer lead time. As early as 2019, the Berlin City Parliament made the corresponding decision. Perspectives from civil society, science and art come together in it. It is about a place and its working methods, but also about who is involved in its design and what experiences become visible there.
The literary scholar and curator Ibou Diop Introduces the topic. After the dialogue, there is an exchange with the guests. Memory appears as something that must be negotiated: Which stories are told, which connections are conveyed, and for whom does this place exist? With another historical sign, this task would hardly be accomplished anyway.
