Interview with Get Well Soon aka Konstantin Gropper about Fear and the Middle Class

Konstantin Gropper isn’t old at all, in his mid-30s. Yet he’s been known as Get Well Soon since 2003. In that time, he’s produced five albums and made a name for himself with his music project – and a good name at that. The German arts pages adore this young man, who hails from a village in Baden-Württemberg but left the provinces behind long ago. His fifth album, ‘The Horror’, was released in June, which turned out not to be a bad omen. The track ‘Martyrs’ particularly stands out. Here, Gropper paints an epic soundscape – no, a sound painting. Soundtracks, folk, classical: he draws his ingredients from many genres and crafts them into: pop. Süddeutsche Zeitung writes of his new album: ‘He ventures deep into pop.’ Blimey, let’s hope he finds his way back out. We spoke to him, among other things, about the German musician middle class and German angst.

Get Well Soon’s ‘The Horror’ has been released on Caroline International.
Get Well Soon & Big Band live on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October from 8 p.m. at the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
